Little Nightmares – Xbox360

Little Nightmares Xbox360

We first got a chance to check out Little Nightmares when it was showed off at Gamescom earlier this year. It’s a new platformer from Tarsier Studios, a Swedish developer primarily known for much more cutesy fare, such as work on Sony’s LittleBigPlanet series.

With Little Nightmares, Tarsier is headed in a much darker direction, and so far we’re very impressed by what we’ve seen. The game uses simple, physics-based puzzles, not unlike the kind seen in Limbo, but it places them within a unique, almost claymation-esque art style.

Most notably, it employs this supremely chill-inducing camera that follows you from room to room, swaying ever-so-slightly, shifting slowly to look at nearby points of interests. Like great camera work in classic horror films, it gives a sense of being watched — as though the camera is actually some unseen and potentially malevolent outside force rather than a viewpoint that you, as the gamer, control.

Rather than trying to convince you how cool it is, we suggest checking out our video of the full eight-minute demo from Tokyo Game Show above. Little Nightmares will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in spring of 2017.
